Who
may be elected senator?
- A
natural-born citizen of the Philippines
- At
least 35 years old on election day
- Able
to read and write
- A
registered voter
- A
resident of the Philippines for not less than two years immediately
preceding the day of the election
What is a Senator's term of office?
The term of office of senators is six years and commences at noon
of June 30 following their election, which shall be held on the
second Monday of May. They shall not serve for more than two consecutive
terms. Voluntary renunciation of the office for the length of time
shall not be considered as an interruption in the continuity of
their service for the full term for which they were elected.
What happens in case of a vacancy in the Senate?
A special election may be called to fill such vacancy, but the senator
thus elected shall serve only for the unexpired term.
