The Comelec justifies and argues its position of not revealing the names of the nominees on the supposed ground that revealing the names would shift voters’ focus away from platform-based politics, into personality-oriented politics.
Sounds noble …
In actual practice, however, we all know that platforms could be deceptively and beautifully crafted, deodorized and packaged to reflect popular and high ideals.
The only way for the people not to be misled by false propaganda is for the Comelec (or any concerned public or private watchdog) to provide information on a partylist group’s real commitment to its avowed lofty ideals and advocacies, including reports on its activities, actual projects and contributions to society; leadership; internal organizational processes that reflect basic democratic values of representation and consultation, transparency, and accountability, within their own organizations, etc.
Even the devil will preach God’s word to get elected!
